Built with the people who know the craft.
Our ceramics are made with Adil Ghani of Raaquu Ceramics, one of Malaysia's most dedicated practitioners of the art. The planter was never an afterthought for us. It's the centrepiece of the whole system, so we were deliberate about who we built it with.
Every piece starts as clay, shaped in our own moulds. The outer shell has to survive shrinkage during firing and still land within a 3mm tolerance against the plant liner, a demanding standard most ceramics studios never have to hit. We designed the self-watering system from the ground up, engineered it ourselves, and built it into our own pots. This isn't sourced and relabelled. It's made here, by us, and you won't find it anywhere else. Even the glaze is ours, formulated in-house from custom hex codes, so colour itself becomes something we can build for you.

Tsuchi is a sculptural terracotta planter, hand-finished for corporate gifting and desk-scale greenery. Small enough to land on any desk. Distinctive enough to be remembered. It's the most accessible entry point into the Urban Roots range, without asking you to compromise on craft.
It comes in three finishes. Bisque is clean, warm, and matte, the everyday hero. Smoke and Obvara are our Raku collection, fired using an ancient technique where heat and natural materials decide the final pattern on each piece. No two are ever identical. Each one is a premium, one-of-a-kind statement.
Paired with a living plant and our self-watering system, each Tsuchi only needs refilling once every two to three weeks, so the gift stays alive and thriving long after it's given.

Sheeney — the brush behind our CNY edition.
Fong Sheeney is a Kedah-born, Kuala Lumpur-based calligrapher who has practised the brush since the age of seven. Named to Grazia Malaysia's Creative Class 2025, she's competed on local and international stages. For her, calligraphy isn't an ancient relic to look at, it's storytelling and emotion captured in a single brushstroke.
She hand-brushes our Chinese New Year edition: characters of fortune, prosperity, and renewal, paired with auspicious plants like the Money Tree. A living, hand-lettered gift for the season when Malaysian brands gift the most.
Together, Shatila and Sheeney give us Malaysia's two biggest gifting seasons, Raya and CNY, each in the hands of a master of that tradition.
Shatila Shukor — architect of script.
Shatila Shukor is the artist behind Shatila Scribes, a Kuala Lumpur studio specialising in luxury calligraphy and hand-engraving. With a background in architecture from UiTM and RGU Scotland, she brings structural precision to the fluidity of hand-lettering, turning everyday objects into heirloom pieces.
For Urban Roots, Shatila hand-letters our Raya and Eid edition in gold: Sabar (Patience), Salam (Peace), Eid Mubarak. Each inscription is paired with a plant chosen to match its meaning, a festive gift carrying genuine artistry.
