Rubber Fig Plant Care

Rubber Fig

Originally from the tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia, the Rubber Plant is prized for its bold, glossy leaves and modern silhouette. In the wild, it can grow into a towering tree, but indoors it stays compact — making it a stylish, low-effort statement for any room. Bonus: it’s a natural air purifier, too.

Your plant is already potted and self-watering — no repotting or soil changes needed.
Light. Place in bright, indirect light to maintain deep burgundy coloring. It can tolerate medium light but may lose some vibrancy.

Avoid prolonged direct sun — it may scorch the leaves.

Watering

Your pot is self-watering — simply check the water reservoir once a month and refill if empty. No top watering needed.

Temperature

Thrives in warm indoor temperatures between 18–26°C. Avoid cold drafts or AC vents — these can cause leaf drop.

Humidity

Moderate humidity preferred. If leaves are dusty or dull, wipe gently with a damp cloth to keep them breathing and shining.

Growth

This plant grows tall and upright — prune as needed to maintain shape. It responds well to trimming and may branch out with time.

Pruning Tip

Use clean scissors to trim above a leaf node. Milky sap may appear — this is natural latex and can irritate skin, so wash hands after.

Pet Safety

Rubber plants are toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach from pets and young children.

Fun Fact
Ficus elastica gets its name from the milky sap once used to make rubber — hence the name “Rubber Plant.”
